Internship information
General Farm Description: We have internship openings available starting mid-April , 2019 and continuing through fall 2019. We are especially looking for people willing to commit to staying through the summer. SouthWinds Farm is a small farm dedicated to growing delicious, healthy foods, using organic and sustainable methods. Our farm runs primarily on solar energy. Located in the San Pedro Valley near Benson, we strive to provide the freshest, highest quality vegetables and fruit to our customers.

Internship Details:

Expectations for interns include helping with most components of our production farm operation. Tasks assigned will include harvesting, washing & preparing produce for our markets, setting up and selling at the farmers market, preparing growing beds, starting seeds, transplanting, cultivating, weeding, irrigation, high-tunnel maintenance, compost preparation and application, along with other farm duties as necessary for growing and selling our crops. We expect a minimum of 50 to 60 hours of work per week with one-and-a-half days off, not necessarily in sequence. Our two primary harvest days are nearly always 10 hours in length. At present we are not able to accommodate intern dogs and cats.


Educational Opportunities: Interns will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of operating and maintaining a sustainable farming operation, including crop selection, planning, CSA operation, marketing, as well as aspects of farm and business planning.

Skills Desired: Although not an absolute necessity, we prefer applicants with some level of experience with growing vegetables, Such as gardening for personal or family food production. We prefer interns who are strongly interested in someday having a farm of their own.

Meals: Food staples will be provided. We will accommodate omnivore, vegetarian and vegan diets. Interns prepare their own meals.

Stipend: Negotiable depending on length of stay and level of experience.

Housing: Provided. We have two travel trailers that provide three private bedrooms. Both trailers have full kitchens and bathrooms. Trailers possibly shared with other interns.
