Regenerative Research and Practices for Forests and Fields
In this presentation, part of the National Center for Approptiate Technology’s second Soil Health Innovations Conference in March of 2022, Darren Yanke talks about his farm’s Rain Friendly Farming, sharing how they helped “transition our soils into the water absorbing monsters, they are today. Some of the practices we use include planting cover crops, planting row crops green, rotationally grazing perennial pastures along with integrating livestock onto row crop acres.”
Also, Hannah Hemmelgarn will discuss the importance and impact of perennial tree crops on soil and water quality in agricultural settings based on decades of research on the subject. Intentionally selected trees and shrubs integrated within multi-functional spaces, when appropriately designed and managed, can have a profoundly positive effect on ecological health and farm productivity.
