Farmer Portrait: Paul Wilson, Warfield, Virginia

In this series, we spotlight some of the farmers and ranchers NCAT supports. They raise fruit, vegetables, flowers, and animals on farms and urban gardens from New Hampshire to Kentucky, on operations that range in size from less than an acre to more than 40 acres. But these differences mean very little. They share a commitment to stewarding the land and serving their communities, and we are proud to partner with them.

Paul Wilson raises vegetables and laying hens and is developing a sheep operation on 48 acres in Warfield, Virginia. Because Paul is blind, he is designing his operation to ensure that he can manage the sheep independently, with the help of Sadie, his Border Collie. Paul is participating in the Building Soil, Building Equity project, for which NCAT provides technical assistance, and he is implementing sustainable practices like silvopasture on more than half of his land.
