Texas Scientists Focusing on Industrial Hemp

The Texas A&M AgriLife Research Industrial Hemp Breeding Team is working to develop hemp cultivars that are heat-adapted for Texas, as well as being drought tolerant. These could help Texas producers access a growing industrial hemp market. The research team is also working on developing hemp with longer fibers and larger seeds that are more marketable. The team is even involved in product development to help create a greater market for industrial hemp. They’re exploring insecticides derived from the terpenes and the use of nanocellulose as an emulsifier.
